PAHO/WHO Ethical Guidelines for Research Involving Human Subjects

Purpose

The objective of making these guides available to researchers is to enable them to better comply with PAHO standards when submitting research proposals, progress reports, final reports, and policy recommendations.

Also included are the guidelines to be followed for ethical certification: before any project involving human subjects can be funded, it must undergo ethical review both in the country where the research is being conducted, and by the PAHO Ethical Review Committee (PAHOERC). The guidelines governing ethical aspects and the protection of human subjects involved in research are written in easy-to-follow summary form, along with the necessary forms for local ethical certification. Other useful links on bioethics are included as well.
