Effective strategies for chronic disease prevention and control require concerted actions among various sectors including health, education, agriculture, and trade as well as various parties including governments, industries, and civil society. The PAHO/WHO Chronic Disease Program has established the Partners' Forum for Chronic Disease Prevention and Control, to create partnerships between these various sectors, create synergies and catalyze environmental, social and policy changes that promote health and prevent chronic diseases.
Purpose: Provide leadership in chronic disease prevention and control in the Americas, being action-oriented and focused on "12 x 2012" key objectives that address underlying risk factors of chronic diseases by making the healthy choice the easier choice and thus producing favorable health and wellness outcomes in the Region. The objectives are related to the following topics:
Goals
The Partners' Forum Secretariat will be the PAHO Chronic Disease team. PAHO will fund certain seed actions, and a fund is being established in collaboration with the Pan American Health and Education Foundation (PAHEF), which will support the work of the Partners' Forum and key actions to achieve the objectives.
