EXTRACT

Nutrition claims are statements that describe the presence, absence or level of a nutrient contained in a foodstuff, or its value compared to similar products. These claims could be based on nutrient content, nutrient function or health. They could also be comparative in nature.

Nutrient content claim is the most commonly encountered and it describes the level of nutrients contained in a food. A comparative claim compares the nutrient level and / or energy value of two or more foods while nutrient function claim describes the role of the nutrient in growth, development and normal functions of the body. Nutrition health claim on the other hand, is any statement that states, suggests or implies that a relationship exists between a food, nutrient and or other substance in a food and a disease or health-related condition.
