The conference on national nutrition coordinators was held in Antigua between the 15th and 19th November, 2004. The theme of the conference was "Combating obesity, diabetes and hypertension through nutrition" and the objectives were:

1. To launch the protocol for the nutritional management of obesity, diabetes and hypertension in the Caribbean;

2. To train national nutrition and non-communicable disease coordinators in 18 countries and members of the diabetes association of the Caribbean to use the protocol as a vehicle for fostering improved health and to become potential trainers in their respective countries;

3. To share knowledge and skills relating to nutrition and NCD's among national nutrition and NCD coordinators as well as the members of the diabetes association of the Caribbean; and

4. To develop country-specific plans which integrate the new protocol and outline strategies for its implementation in all 18 countries.
