New Blog of the Director of PAHO, Dr. Mirta Roses, is Well Received Throughout Region
Dr. Mirta Roses launched her new weblog, or Internet blog, a week ago to open a new regional dialogue on health, making good use of emerging technologies to promote access to health information. Her first article, on PAHO's vision for knowledge sharing and information dissemination, launched the new initiative that aims to network with partners and to reach health professionals throughout the hemisphere, to expand local and regional capacities and multiply the available social capital in the countries of the Americas.
The Director's new blog is a modern, convenient virtual space where users and visitors can share views on the improvement of health in the Americas.
In its first week, the blog has registered visits from numerous organizations such as the World Health Organization, BIREME, the World Bank, UNESCO and the Carlos III Health Institute of Spain. Since the blog was launched on May 3, which marked World Press Freedom Day, readers have visited from many countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico, Paraguay, the United States of America and Uruguay.

Following the recommendations of the World Summit on the Information Society and with the objective of expanding the social linkages of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Dr. Mirta Roses Periago, Director, is pleased to announce the launch of her Internet blog, taking advantage today of the celebration of World Press Freedom Day.
We are convinced that access to health information is an integral aspect of human rights, requiring us to network with partners that will enable us to expand our local and regional capacities and thus multiply the available social capital in our countries. In this regard, we are working on the use of emerging information technologies for information and knowledge management and have decided to adopt blogs as a new channel of communication for the Organization.
