La Directora de la OPS se reúne con la Ministra Laura Albornoz, Presidenta de la Comisión Interamericana de Mujeres (CIM) de la OEA

Integrando el trabajo sobre equidad de género y salud entre agencias del sistema interamericano.
La Presidenta de la Comisión Interamericana de Mujeres (CIM) de la OEA, Ministra de SERNAM/Chile, Laura Albornoz, sostuvo una reunión con la Directora de la OPS, Dra. Mirta Roses, durante la visita de cortesía que realizara a la sede de la institución de salud regional.
Durante la reunión ambas representantes dialogaron para identificar las áreas de colaboración y apoyo técnico que permita fortalecer la función de promoción de la causa política de CIM en el impulso de derechos de las mujeres con un énfasis especial en Violencia de Género (VBG), la salud sexual y reproductiva, y derechos, empleo, educación de calidad y envejecimiento.

WHO Global Policy Group Meeting WHO/GPG

WHO Director-General, Dr. Margaret Chan, the six Regional Directors and the Deputy Director-General, met in Geneva once concluded the 9th Meeting of the Programme, Budget and Administration Committee of the WHO-EB (EBPBAC) and before the celebration of the 124th Session of the WHO Executive Board in the first annual meeting of the Global Policy Group to review and discuss some of the WHO main policy issues.
Reflections on WHO ways of working, a WHO management strategy with focus in the needs to be absolute clarity on policy, planning and resources by both WHO and donor partners, and demonstration of performance and outcomes was overall for the WHO Director-General and Regional Directors.

WHO-EB appoints Regional Directors for
Western Pacific Region (WHO/WPRO) and
South-East Asia Region (WHO/SEARO)

WHO Press Release.-
The WHO Executive Board, that recently concluded its 124th session in Geneva, has appointed Dr Shin Young-soo as Regional Director for the Western Pacific Region, and reappointed Dr Samlee Plianbangchang for a second term as Regional Director for the South-East Asia Region.
Dr Shin Young-soo, 65, of the Republic of Korea succeeds Dr Shigeru Omi of Japan, who served two terms as Regional Director. Dr Shin, until recently Professor of Health Policy and Management at the College of Medicine, Seoul National University, has longstanding connections with WHO, having undertaken more than 30 assignments with the Organization as an adviser and consultant, and having on a number of occasions served on its Executive Board as the representative of the Republic of Korea.
WPRO is one of the six Regional Offices of WHO which includes more than 1.5 billion people in 37 Member States and areas.
Dr Samlee Plianbangchang served for 16 years at WHO, and worked in several key positions in the Ministry of Public Health, Royal Thai Government including as Director, Technical Division, Department of Medical Services.
SEARO is one of the six Regional Offices of WHO, with eleven Member States.
Expression of appreciation to Dr Shigeru Omi
The Executive Board, on the occasion of the retirement of Dr Shigeru Omi as Regional Director
for the Western Pacific, expressed its appreciation of his services to the World Health Organization.
Mindful of his lifelong devotion to the cause of international health, and recalling especially his
10 years of service as Regional Director for the Western Pacific. The EB expressed its profound gratitude
and appreciation to Dr Shigeru Omi for his invaluable contribution to the work of WHO, which include among other his
work in the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), and the spearheaded WPRO's poliomyelitis eradication
initiative, as well as his contribution in SARS and Avian Flu regional workplans
Dr. Omi has recently been honoured by the Rotary International with the Polio Eradication Champion Award.
