The 27th Pan American Sanitary Conference (59th Session of the Regional Committee of the World Health Organization for the Americas) in accordance with its Rules of Procedure, elected Dr. Mirta Roses Periago, Director of the Pan American Sanitary Bureau, for a second term of five years, to begin on 1 February 2008. The 27th Pan American Sanitary Conference (59th Session of the Regional Committee of the World Health Organization for the Americas) decided to submit to the Executive Board of the World Health Organization the name of Dr. Mirta Roses Periago for appointment as Regional Director for the Americas.

Speech Second Term as Regional Director for the Americas (AMRO)

Dr. Roses will deliver her speech this Thursday, 24th January 2008, at the 122nd Session of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization. After the event, the speech will be published in the four official languages of the Organization, where she will renew her commitment to work for public health in the Americas.

Inauguration Speech at PAHO Headquarters

Dr. Roses also will deliver an inauguration speech on Friday, 1 February 2008, as Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in an official ceremony attended by health officials of the Americas and international organizations, committed to the essential ideals that gave rise to PAHO: Health is such a valuable good that it must be within the reach of all the people.
