Douments, reports and initiatives planned launch during the World Summit on Health Research in México :

The Report focuses on bridging of the "know do" gap, the gulf between what we know and what we do in practice, between scientific potential and health realization. The bridging of this gap is central to achieving the health-related Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s) by 2015. The gap exists for each of the MDG’s and represents a fundamental and pragmatic knowledge translation challenge that must be addressed to strengthen health systems performance towards achieving the MDG’s.

  • International Registration of Clinical Trials (Adobe Acrobat Document)

The initiative was conceived within the context of the need to increase international access to and utilization of health-related knowledge. Access to both published and ongoing research is necessary for informed decision-making, not just by those working in and using the health services, but also by organizations and individuals funding and doing research.

  • Improving Access to Health Information in the Developing World (Adobe Acrobat Document). By Fiona Godlee, Neil Pakenham-Walsh, Dan Ncayiyana, Barbara Cohen and Abel Packer.

Access to healthcare information has become a key international development issue and the paper focuses on meeting the information needs of a key group of decision makers: healthcare providers in the developing world.

The paper recommends that WHO and its partners convene an international collaborative group to formulate and implement a special initiative to improve access to healthcare information in the developing world.
