Mexico City to Host First International AIDS Conference in Latin America

The 17th International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2008) will be held in México City, México, on August 3-8, marking the first time the conference is held in Latin America.

Some 25,000 people from around the world are expected to participate in this year's conference, whose theme is "Universal Action Now."

"This is a chance for Latin America and the Caribbean to showcase our response to the epidemic and share the lessons we have learned with the rest of the world," says Rafael Mazín, the Pan American Health Organization's (PAHO) regional advisor on HIV/AIDS prevention and comprehensive care.

The conference is accepting abstract submissions through Feb. 19. For more information visit: www.aids2008.org (click on CONFERENCES: AIDS 2008).
