International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

PAHO to Honor Singer Jerry Rivera for His Efforts to End Domestic Violence

WHAT: Domestic violence is a problem in every country of the Americas, affecting people of all social classes and constituting a serious public health problem. PAHO is helping countries develop actions to end familial violence. On November 21, PAHO will observe International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women at its headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Jerry Rivera, composer of the song "Rivers of Pain," has offered to serve as spokesperson for a new PAHO campaign to end domestic violence. The event will also include testimonies of individuals who have experienced domestic violence first-hand.
