Planut: Software for Nutrition Planners

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Pan American Institute for Food Protection and Zoonoses (INPPAZ) have created a new software program, Nutritional Planner (Planut) 3.0, that can help nutrition experts develop dietary recommendations that maximize nutrition while minimizing food costs.
Nutritionists at INPPAZ, one of nine PAHO scientific and technical centers, designed Planut using nutritional guidelines developed by the World Health Organization (WHO), the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and PAHO. The software combines nutritional criteria and data on local food prices to produce high-nutrition, low-cost dietary options.
Users can set their own dietary goals and input new foods that are not in the original database.

Planut, currently only available in Spanish, can produce dietary plans for up to seven days and target them to particular groups according to age, sex and culture.
