Centennial Symposium
CELEBRATING PARTNERSHIPS:
100 Years of Health in the Americas
A Centennial Celebration of the Pan American Health Organization
Washington, D.C., 2-3 December 2002
The Centennial year of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) culminated on 2-3 December 2002 with the Anniversary Symposium - Celebrating Partnerships: 100 years of Health in the Americas. This event highlighted the international support that has been so crucial to PAHO's work throughout the years and provided a unique opportunity to reflect with our partners and Member States about the many health challenges that lie ahead.
The Symposium included several panels involving leading figures from the fields of public health and development cooperation. These panels addressed the achievements and challenges of public health in our Region, the Millennium Development Goals and principles for international health cooperation, the implementation of the hemispheric mandates in health, best practices in interagency collaboration, and new types of partnerships to address new health challenges.
The audience included several ministers and other health authorities from throughout the Americas, as well as political, and development and health experts from the international community.
