EXTERNAL RELATIONS AND PARTNERSHIPS
In 1990, PAHO embarked on a course of action that responded to the complexities of health reform, decentralization and social participation by endeavoring to strengthen its relations with the Civil Society, including non-traditional allies, NGO networks, foundations, and the private sector, working in health and human development in Latin America and the Caribbean. There is a significant role being played by many Civil Society Organizations which are purposefully working to serve the communities in fulfilling their mission to narrow the major health gaps and improve overall health outcomes. PAHO, through their Office of External Relations, along with the Pan American Health and Education Foundation (PAHEF), conducts a variety of cooperation activities in the Latin American health field designed to achieve specific objectives. The Civil Society Organizations are making an important contribution to realizing many of the stated health goals.
