Chile - Plans for Centennial Celebrations

Establish the National Committee with members from the following sectors/institutions:

Ministry of Health
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Office of the First Lady
Universities
Health commissions from the Senate and Congress
Former and current staff from PAHO/Chile
NGO's
Media outlets and journalists

Objective of celebration: to detail the public health accomplishments in Chile and to celebrate the health of Chileans, and how that has been accomplished with PAHO assistance.

Activities Throughout 2002

Mayoral Meeting on Health Promotion - date to be determined (w/ HPP)
January - Press Conference to announce celebrations and activities (call for entries on the contests)
April - World Health Day (panel and press conference)
June - "Walk for Health" promotional walk for the health of Chileans
September - Launch of "Health in the Americas" and the Director's Quadrennial Report
2 December - an event to highlight the future of public health, identify the goals and future accomplishments, especially equity and Pan Americanism.
