Centennial Blood Colection Drive

The sight of blood was never more welcome or exciting as during the Blood Colection Drive organized by the Pan American Health Organization office in Jamaica as part of its centennial celebrations. The ground floor of the Ministry of Health building and the Caribbean Food & Nutrition Institute Conference Room were transformed into mobile Blood Colection Centers on Wednesday, 10 April and Thursday 11 April 2002.

Dr. Manuel Peña, PAHO Representative, promoted the drive and emphasized the importance of voluntary blood donation. He said that it is an expression of "Health Culture." PAHO's two-day blood drive collected more than 100 units of blood, representing one of the highest amounts that have ever been colected during such a drive.

Encouraged by the eager response and the number of persons mobilized to donate, Dr. Pena and his staff have commited to making this blood drive an annual event.
