
Trinidad & Tobago - Centennial Celebrations
Postal Stamps Honor PAHO Centennial
On November 29, Trinidad & Tobago finished its centennial-year activities with the launching of a series of PAHO commemorative postal stamps. One of the postal stamps honors J. Lennox Pawan, the Trinidadian bacteriologist who in 1931 discovered the transmission of rabies by vampire bats.
The Trinidad and Tobago office designed and made its own PAHO Centennial Quilt, and a local composer has written a special calypso song in honor of the anniversary. Trinidad and Tobago will issue four PAHO commemorative stamps during 2002, one of which will feature the country's local health hero.

Trinidad & Tobago - Plans for celebrations
- Coordinate joint events with CPC at sub-regional level
- The 5k biannual race has been re-scheduled for 2002
- Organize National press conference on 2/12/02 to launch Centennial activities
- Produce a commemorative stamp as well as other materials such as pins and letter stickers
- Perform a charitable act
- Set-up an exhibition /open house showcasing PAHO's contribution to improvement of health in T&T and the Americas
- Coordinate nationwide school and journalism contests
Latest Update:
- The Centennial Poster and Essay contests will be opened for January 2002.
- The PAHO 100 logo will be used in all the publications and material produced all over 2002.
- During 2002 an active campaign will be organized for staff to interact with the media.
- Mr. Roget was the winner of the slogan contest. He will be receiving an award at the Long-Service Awards Ceremony to be held in November 2001.
- A quilt will be designed. It will be on permanent exhibition accompanied by a booklet with information on the symbol of the quilt and information on the centennial. The quilt will also be the X-mas card motif and the design of a poster.
- Design of PAHO 100 banners.
- A PAHO 100 calypso song will be arrangement.
- A Family Day will be organized to interact with children living with AIDS, from the Cyril Ross Home for Children with AIDS.
- A social evening will be organized with a senior citizen home.
- The PAHO 100 5K will be held on December 7th , 2002. A special medal will be designed with the PAHO 100 logo. This will be the culminating activity of the centennial celebrations.
- A Press Conference will be held on December 2nd, 2002 with the PWR and relevant stakeholders and nationwide media, to formally launch the week of the centennial celebrations.
