
Venezuela - Plans for Centennial Celebrations
- Formation of the National Committee, made up of representatives from the following institutions: Ministries of Defense, Education, Science & Technology, National Academy of Medicine, Central University of Venezuela, University of Carabobo, University of the Andes, National Institute of Nutrition, National Institute of Hygiene "Rafael Rangel," Venezuelan Red Cross, Polar Foundation, Venezuelan Press Association, American Red Cross, and the Venezuelan Society for Radio Diffusion
- Formation of an Executive Committee to coordinate the activity, facilitate the convocations and carry out the communications. The executive committee is made up of the PWR of Venezuela and high-ranking government officials (Ministries of Health, Commerce, Foreign Affairs, and the Environment)
- The Executive and National Committees will select the Public Health Heroes.
- A list of Champions of Health has been provided.
- The Netherlands Antilles and Aruba will name their own Executive and National Committees, Public Health Heroes and Champions of Health.
For the anniversary year 2002, Venezuela plans to coordinate the following activities:
- A series of conferences public health themes to take place the last Monday of every month, corresponding to the technical meetings of the PWR.
- A January press conference with radio and TV coverage announcing the beginning of our centennial. This will be the beginning of a series of programs for the media.
- A Walkathon on World Health Day, Sunday, April 7, 2002.
- A special event that will take place on Monday, April 8, 2002 (during the celebration of World Health Day) that will include the theme of the creation of PAHO and the celebration the centennial.
- During September, a special presentation to launch "Health in the Americas" and the Director's Quadrennial Report.
- During October an exhibit of photographs and historical documents will be on display to illustrate the evolution of 100 years of public health in Venezuela and PAHO's role in the goals that have been reached.
- Throughout the year there will be investigative and scientific articles published, analyzing public health issues and problems, advances toward the achievement of the "Healthy Children: Goal 2002", in which Venezuela has been involved in reducing infant mortality. There will also be meetings with the press and the Public Health Heroes to promote the centennial.
- In November the release of the commemorative book, "100 Years of Technical Cooperation between PAHO and Venezuela" will take place in a special ceremony. A special concert will also be given.
- On December 2, 2002 there will be a special ceremony in which the Public Health Heroes will receive awards and the Champions of Health will be thanked for their participation throughout the year.
- During the year, all of the various products with the PAHO 100 logo will be distributed.
