National Health Policies Nicaragua
At the end of 2003, the President of the Republic of Nicaragua, Eng. Enrique Bolaños Geyer, presented the National Development Plan to the people of Nicaragua. In his presentation, President Bolaños emphasized that the people’s participation in this plan would be vital to its success, expressing that they played an important role in the future of the Republic. On this same occasion, and with the same emphasis it was unveiled the National Policy of Health 2004-2015, which sets forth a set of general guidelines or directives that will guide the health activities of this period. This Policy was bourne out of as intense collaborative planning process and based on the National Plan of Development and the Strengthened Strategy of Growing Economic and Poverty Reduction.
The National Policy of Health 2004-2015 is a product of a broad consultation process among various health-related sectors and is an answer to the demands of the Nicaraguan population in regard to its health situation and to the challenges of the sector.
