6th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development Marie Curie International Fellowships
The European Commission has established a new fellowship scheme, the Marie Curie International Fellowships, for cooperation with third countries. It will be implemented at the beginning of 2003 and will cover until 2006. The purpose of this interorganizational grants program is to promote, technically support and finance research related to the control of dengue, malaria, tuberculosis, Chagas disease, geohelminthiasis and schistosomiasis in the Region of the Americas. Its objective is to develop research capability to be jointly carried out by public health and research institutions in the Americas. The joint design and execution of applied research, based on solid methodological principles, will provide evidence and a basis for determining health policies.

Research Training Fellowships in Health
Invitation to researchers from Latin America and the Caribbean to apply for a one-year postdoctoral training in the intramural laboratories of the NIH. This initiative is aimed at training researchers, with the ultimate goal of building research capacity where it is most needed, by offering the necessary conditions for advanced-level continuing education in priority areas impacting upon public-health issues in the Region.
