The Second Hispanic Forum on a Safe & Healthy Environment

In 2000, The National Safety Council (NSC), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), and the National Alliance for Hispanic Health (The Alliance) jointly sponsored an international Hispanic Forum on a Safe and Healthy Environment in Orlando, Florida. This Forum successfully brought together representatives of national, international and community-based organizations, as well as academia, labor unions and industry to address the pressing safety and health issues facing Hispanics in the Americas. The Forum was an opportunity to identify common challenges, forge new partnerships and develop a model plan of action. The Second Hispanic Forum aims to do this and more by focusing on building the capacity of community based and Hispanic-serving organizations in ways that equip them to better address the safety, health and environmental protection needs of Hispanics, while also sharing these strategies and techniques with international participants and organizations. Making homes, workplaces, communities, highways, lifestyles and schools throughout the Americas safer and healthier is essential to building a prosperous and sustainable continental community.

The Second Hispanic Forum will focus on four main areas, each of which will contain lectures, workshops and events - Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Health, Transportation Safety, and International Workers' Health. In addition to having the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as a new co-sponsor, this Second Hispanic Forum will run in conjunction with the National Safety Council's 90th Annual Congress and Exposition as well as a special U.S.-Mexico Border Issues Conference! The opportunities to learn, network and develop solutions are growing! Thousands are expected to attend - why not be one of them! Hispanic health is an increasingly important issue across the continent - your support, as an attendee, sponsor or simply a promoter is always welcome. We hope to see you there!
