The World Health Organization (WHO), the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), and the Ministry of Health of Mexico collaborated to organize the Fifth Global Conference on Health Promotion (5GCHP), 5 - 9 June, 2000, Mexico City, Mexico-- an event which focused on how health promotion, by addressing the social determinants of health, helps to improve the lives of economically and socially disadvantaged populations.
