Worm Busters!

You can help children who are needlessly suffering…

Wouldn't you agree that one of the most gratifying things in life is helping a child in need?

It is hard to realize that millions of children around the world are needlessly suffering from serious health and developmental problems that are easily treatable.

Right now over 2 billion people world wide, mostly children and pregnant women, -- a quarter of the world's population -- are infected with debilitating intestinal parasites. The problem continues to escalate and is one of the most persistent health problems today.

Intestinal worms cause anemia, underweight infants, malnutrition, and retarded mental and physical growth. Children's school performance and activites are affected. In adults productivity is crippled, causing an enormous economic burden on affected communities.

The World Food Program has joined with the World Health Organization to fight this problem, as worms consume a considerable percentage of generously donated food to poor communities.

Intestinal worms spread easily in poor sanitary conditions in impoverished communities.

You can help hundreds of children suffering from intestinal parasites in this hemisphere? It's true! The medication to treat one child costs only pennies, can be administered easily and cost-effectively through existing school feeding and other community programs, and only two treatments per year are needed to significantly reduce the parasite-load and the resulting illnesses.

Your gift to the Worm Busters Campaign will help treat children who live in places in our hemisphere where intestinal worms are endemic. You can help give these children a chance to lead a healthier more productive life. You can help them thrive and make the most of their educational opportunities. You can give them a chance they've never had.

An effective worm control strategy will eliminate the injustice that lets millions of children and women live with chronic disease even though a successful and proven cure is within reach.
