OPS recomienda atender el envejecimiento de la población en Latinoamérica
San Salvador, El Salvador. Noviembre 21, 2007.- La Organización Panamericana de la Salud demandó salir al paso del envejecimiento de la población en los países en América Latina, con la aplicación de una iniciativa regional ("Impacta"), que prevenga enfermedades y mejore el entorno social, ante la proyección de que para 2025 habrá 14 millones de personas de 80 años o más. A publication titled Health, Welfare and Aging in Bridgetown, Barbados was launched on Tuesday, April 18, 2006, by the Director of the Pan American Health Organization, Dr. Mirta Roses Periago, at the Pan American Health Organization’s (PAHO) Office of Caribbean Program Coordination (OCPC). Part of a collaborative effort between PAHO and the University of the West Indies (UWI), the publication reports on the Barbados component of a survey conducted in seven (7) cities of the Americas. Toward Universal Access to HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment: 3 by 5 Report for the Americas
As governments, organizations, and individuals strive to combat AIDS deaths and the spread of HIV, we must all aim high. The magnitude of the HIV/AIDS epidemic and its potential to spread require high level planning and large scale action. When the World Health Organization and the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS set the goal to treat three million people with antiretrovirals by 2005, it was with this aim to think big and achieve commensurate gains.(3/Aug/2006)
