Inside the Neighborhood: Salvadoran Street Gangs Violent Solidarity
Almost ten years after signing the peace agreement, there has been an exponential increase in social violence and delinquency in El Salvador. The study behind this book tries to shed light on this phenomenon. One of the objectives of the study was to call attention to the kinds of activities in which these young people participate, as well as analyzing the information collected. This permits not only a better description of the agression and victimization practiced and the severity that both genders suffer, but also of their environment and experiences within the gang. It is believed that this information will help formulate more accurate public policies.(9/Jan/2002)

Children, Adolescents and Heart Disease
Heart disease is a major public-health problem that is responsible for one third of annual global deaths and one tenth of the global disease burden. Although coronary heart disease manifests in adults, the gradual process of arterioschlerosis that eventually results in coronary heart disease begins in childhood. This article from the Director General of Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health at WHO-Geneva appears in the September 2004 issue of HeartBeat, the World Heart Federation Newsletter. In it, she stresses the challenge to provide a comprehensive strategy to promote heart health among children and teenagers as part of World Heart Day 2004.(29/Sep/2004)
