Día Mundial de la Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo
Washington, D.C. Mayo 1ro, 2008.- Palabras de clausura de la Directora en la ceremonia celebrada en la OPS.
'Desde el lanzamiento del Plan de Acción Regional de la OPS de Salud de los Trabajadores en 1999, varios hitos se han logrado en las acciones encaminadas a mejorar las vidas y bienestar de millón de trabajadores, sus familias y comunidades en las Américas. Con el transcurso de los años, ha habido un aumento de la conciencia sobre la función e influencia de nuestro ambiente y del ambiente de trabajo en nuestra salud. Esto ha sido posible mediante la promoción y trabajo de líderes locales, nacionales e internacionales en el campo de salud ocupacional y salud ambiental. Este día nos proporciona una oportunidad de reconocer el compromiso de la comunidad mundial que trabaja para una meta común: mejorando la salud y seguridad de los trabajadores.'

Improving People’s Health through Healthy Environments
Washington, D.C. February 2, 2007. - Millions of families in the world exist – or struggle to survive – in environmental hazards. They are exposed to harsh weather, poor ventilation, little light and the need for constant repair. These conditions are especially oppressive for children – their bodies, their growth and development and their dreams. We need to find the ways to strengthen linkages between health and environment, and integrate our work to improve quality of life in the region.
Dr. Roses presentation in the plenary session at the 7th National Conference on Science, Policy and the Environment (NCSE), with focus on Integrating Environment and Human Health. (2/Feb/2007)

Handbook for a safe and healthy school - A healthy environment for children
This manual provides specific guidelines for safe and healthy schools in Suriname and aims at policy makers, school management and boards, headmasters and teachers and guides their attention to specific environmental health related problem areas and offers appropriate solutions for school environments. This manual contains the experiences of several projects executed in the period 2000-2005, which aimed to improve environmental health conditions at schools. This manual is divided into 8 chapters. This book also highlights the commitment and participation of students in health and environmental health issues and activities at school. Chronic Lung Disorders.
This chapter of the book "Building Better Health: A Handbook of Behavioral Change"discusses how respiratory diseases can be prevented, even more easily than cured. Emphysema and all respiratory cancers could all be rare if only society applied the knowledge that it already has to prevent them. Risk factors as indoor and outdoor air pollution and primary prevention as well as secondary prevention (screening of workers) are discussed.
