World Blood Donor Day 2012 Events

World Blood Donor Day 2012, with the theme “every blood donor is a hero” was observed in The Bahamas with The Princess Margaret Hospital’s annual Donor Ceremony and Corporate Blood Drive, held on Thursday, June 14th, 2012 at Rawson Square, Bay Street. Among the sponsors of the Blood Drive were Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and One Blood.

The ceremony, which recognized blood donors for their unselfish commitment to saving lives, was attended by Dr. Gerry Eijkemans, PWR, who was also invited to make brief remarks and to present certificates to the heroes of the Bahamas, those who regularly donate blood for free.  Other Country Office staff attending the event were, Dr. Victor Zamora, HSS Advisor and Ms. Diane MacDonald, Epidemiologist-PHAC.  Dr. Zamora and Ms. MacDonald gave a gift of blood on this occasion.
