Strategic Approach to Integrated Chemical Management [SAICM], The Bahamas

PDF Print E-mail

At present, the PAHO Bahamas Office is working in collaboration with the Department of Environmental Health Services (DEHS) on an activity which involves strengthening chemical management at the national level through the Strategic Approach to International Chemical Management (SAICM) Quick Start Project. The use and production of chemicals in modern society is a sometime invisible staple of daily life.  However, the production, storage, transport, use and disposal of chemicals involve risks of gradual environmental contamination, and daily risks of both the general public, but also the health of the workers involved with these processes. Additionally, the risk of major chemical accidents resulting from technological incidents has the potential to affect the acute and long-term health of persons.
