Outlining the evolution of Bahamian healthcare throughout the years, Dr. Harold Munnings, Author and Gastroenterologist presented Dr. Gerry Eijkemans, PWR to the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos with one of the first signed copies of his new book, a medical chronology titled “History of Bahamian Healthcare”.

PAHO/WHO country office for Bahamas and Turks and Caicos collaborates with Government of the Bahamas and IAEA around radiation safety plan

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) provided an in-country mission to The Bahamas the 2nd-5th of February, 2015 in order to increase awareness of nuclear security issues and the assistance available to Member States; as well as to discuss and finalize the Integrated Nuclear Security Support Plan (INSSP) for further implementation of nuclear security activities in the country.

4th meeting of the Bahamas Task Force on the Ebola Virus

Marking the 4th meeting of the Bahamas Task Force on the Ebola Virus, Prime Minister Perry Christie held an extensive press conference to address the general public on the country’s preparedness for the deadly virus. The measures took into consideration the security, immigration, and health procedures that are being implemented by the country.

Prime Minister of The Bahamas appoints Task Force on the Ebola Virus

A Task Force on the deadly Ebola Virus was recently appointed by the Right Hon. Perry G. Christie, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.  The group is comprised of several members of The Cabinet, key personnel from government ministries and representation from the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization Country Office.

PAHO/WHO Country Office Supports Implementation of National Health Insurance, Commonwealth of The Bahamas

In continuation of the process of the implementation of National Health Insurance in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, the PAHO/WHO Country Office mobilized  Professor P. Gregory Marchildon, a high level Expert on the Canadian Health System, to visit Nassau during the week of 13-17 October 2014.  Dr. Marchildon currently serves as Research Chair in Public Policy and Economic History at the University of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, and is Professor in the faculty of Administration.  He previously served as Executive Director of the Romanow Commission on the Future of Health Care in Canada from 2001-2002.  The visit was in direct response to a request from the Hon. Dr. M. Perry Gomez, Minister of Health of The Bahamas.
