“The Health of our Youth is the Strength of our Nation”

Belize City, 28 September 2012 –   Belize celebrated the 12th Belize National Secondary Schools Nutrition Quiz Competition for 2012 on the 28th of September at the Biltmore Plaza in Belize City.  The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports coordinated the competition with close collaboration from the Ministry of Health, United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and ADM Belize Mills Limited with all agencies contributing financially for the ongoing success of the competition.  The main purpose of the competition is to educate and create awareness about proper nutrition in both the teachers and students through a fun and motivational way, with the goal to achieve positive behavior changes in the practice of nutrition and lifestyle.  It is hoped that the competition will establish positive trends in Belizeans purchasing more local food products including whole grains and utilizing their by-products and where possible establish vegetable gardens to nutritionally enhance the diet.
