From May 8 to 10, 2012 will take place in the City of Knowledge (Clayton, Panama) the Regional Fair Knowledge from the South: regional Exchange of solutions.
The Government of Panama will host this event that will be coordinated by the Regional Center for Latin America and the Caribbean of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), on behalf of the specialized agencies of the United Nations System, jointly with the Ministry of External Relations of Panama. The fair will also count with the support of the City of Knowledge Foundation.
South-South Cooperation (SSC) has significantly renewed the policies, tools and modalities through which countries and other key actors cooperate and exchange solutions and knowledge about their national and regional development priorities. To this end, The Knowledge from the South Fair seeks to highlight SSC experiences in issues of social and sustainable development that have proved effective in the region, and the mechanisms used for the exchange, adaptation in other countries, and consolidation of cooperation between countries of the region.
Knowledge from the South will emphasize on experiences that have generated solutions in four thematic areas:
Knowledge from the South will pursue the following objectives:
Knowledge from the South will become a strategic space for evidence-based learning about the successful experiences, solutions and mechanisms of SSC in the region. It will also offer a stage for dialogue that will enable participants to further strengthen their cooperation on priority issues.
The main actors of Knowledge from the South will be representatives of successful South-South cooperation experiences conducted between countries in the region in the field of social and sustainable development. The UNDP- LAC Regional Centre and the Panamanian Ministry of External Relations will open a call for experiences that have generated solutions in the above-mentioned thematic areas.
We encourage Latin American and Caribbean countries to nominate their SSC experiences and take part in the Fair. Please contact the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office of your country for further information.
