Honduras: training of PHC professionals in the use of mhGAP Guide

Two training workshops on the use of the depression, OTH and epilepsy modules of the mhGAP Intervention Guide for mental, neurological and substance use disorders in non-specialized health settings were organized by Honduras’s Ministry of Health in the Departments of Olancho and Copán (August and September).

 

Twenty seven PHC professionals attended the workshop in Olancho (22 GPs, two nurses, two psychologists and a pharmacist); in Copan, 26 (twelve GPs, eleven nurses, a psychologist, a pharmacist and a teacher). Both workshops were coordinated by Francisca Acosta, Head of the National Mental Health Program, and had the support of PAHO/ WHO Subregional Advisor on Mental Health, Victor Aparicio Basauri. Darío Alvarado (neurologist), Lucy Martínez and F. Ramírez (psychiatrists), and Thelma García, Ángela Orellana and Keila Mejía (psychologists) acted as facilitators.
