On October 30-31, 2012,
Chile’s National Secretariat for Disability organized an "International Seminar on Public Policy for Disabilities with Dependency". The event was attended by national and international experts and professionals, as well as by representatives of the academia, of governmental and non-governmental institutions, and the civil society, including people with disabilities and their families.
The activity was supported by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) and its Country Office in
Chile. Jorge Rodríguez, Senior Advisor on Mental Health, and Armando Vásquez, Regional Advisor on Disability and Rehabilitation -both from PAHO/WHO- attended as guest speakers. Dr. Rodríguez laid emphasis on the high disabling impact of neurological and mental illnesses, with particular reference to long-standing severe psychosis and dementia.
The seminar allowed a broad and rich exchange of experiences and results will serve as a major input for the development of a national policy on dependency in
