International Diploma in Mental Health Law and Human Rights 2011-2012


The International Diploma in Mental Health Law and Human Rights organized by the Indian Law Society (ILS) Law College in Pune, India, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), is currently accepting applications for 2011-2012. The Diploma, in its fourth year of existence, will be starting in October 2011.

The course seeks to build the capacity of students to advocate for human rights and to actively support countries in drafting and amending mental health laws that are in line with international human rights standards, such as the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

It is a one year Diploma that includes distance learning and two residential sessions.

Students to date have comprised health and mental health professionals, lawyers, mental health service users/survivors, government officials, social workers, human rights defenders and families and carers from countries around the world. The course is taught by renowned international experts in the area.
