Tegucigalpa, Honduras. October 19, 2011. Representatives from the World Health Organization, the International League against Epilepsy (ILAE), the International Bureau for Epilepsy (IBE), and authorities from Latin American and Caribbean countries gathered in Tegucigalpa for the presentation of the Regional strategy and action plan on epilepsy.
More than 40 international experts, health ministry officials, representatives of the civil society and of associations of families of people suffering from this disorder were present at the meeting with the purpose of exchanging information on the status of epilepsy in the world, particularly in the Americas, and to share successful experiences in the use of appropriate methodologies for the management of common mental disorders, including epilepsy, in the primary care level.
They also discussed practical ways to implement the Strategy in the context of Latin America and the Caribbean and possible lines of cooperation with the support of the ILAE and IBE.
