Ottawa, October 23-24, 2009 - The McLaughlin Centre for Population Health Risk Assessment at the University of Ottawa, in partnership with Health Canada and the Pan American Health Organization, hosted the Canadian WHO/PAHO Collaborating Centre Workshop - Strengthening Capacity and Partnership with PAHO in the Americas.
The first workshop of its kind, representatives from 24 of 25 Collaborating Centres participated, as well as representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO), the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Government of Canada. Over 50 participants contributed to discussions on the roles and responsibilities of Collaborating Centres and how they can more effectively engage in the region of the Americas. One hundred percent of evaluation respondents agreed that the meeting met their expectations, was a success, and expressed a desire for more regular meetings in the future.
"[I'm] impressed by the commitment - high level people who contributed, stayed and were interested!" - Collaborating Centre participant
