The departments of Vaupés and Vichada, located in eastern Colombia along the border with Brazil and Venezuela, have a predominantly indigenous population that, due to precarious living, hygiene, and basic sanitation conditions, suffers from a broad range of neglected infectious diseases.

PAHO/WHO Workshop on Gender, Health, Rights, and Interculturalism in the Sphere of Health

Bogotá, D.C., 22 April 2013. The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) held a workshop on Gender, Health, Rights, and Interculturalism in the Sphere of Health with female indigenous leaders from Vaupés and Vichada, to exchange ideas, experiences, and perceptions on gender, human rights, and interculturalism, and their relation to health based on their own experience and worldview.
This workshop is held within the framework of the project with CIDA, with technical support on gender and health from PAHO Colombia, and with the collaboration of the PAHO regional office through the advisor on mainstreaming of gender, diversity, and human rights, Dr. Shelly Abdool.

Vaupés and Vichada evaluate health improvement project
