Bolivia has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the Americas. Hemorrhage is the main cause of death and it affects mainly women in rural areas.

The municipality of El Alto, with 800,000 inhabitants, is one place where maternal mortality by hemorrhage is the main cause of maternal death. For this reason, it was selected to implement the project.
