New data show child mortality rates falling faster than ever

WHO, UNICEF, World Bank Group, UN-DESA Population Division joint news release

16 September 2014 | NEW YORK -New data released today by the United Nations show that under-five mortality rates have dropped by 49% between 1990 and 2013. The average annual reduction has accelerated – in some countries it has even tripled – but overall progress is still short of meeting the global target of a two-thirds decrease in under-five mortality by 2015.

Los Estados Miembros de las Américas han hecho ingentes esfuerzos para reducir las muertes maternas y las complicaciones más graves del proceso reproductivo entendiendo que  tanto la salud sexual y reproductiva como la salud materna son un derecho humano y que la muerte o las secuelas son un atentado a esos derechos y una de las formas en las que se expresa la injusticia social.
