Hurricane Gilbert, Jamaica (only in English )
Hurricane Gilbert, which hit Jamaica in September 1988, caused widespread devastation, not least of which was the damage sustained by some 90% of the island's health facilities. This report describes preparedness and response activities carried out by the health sector, the health surveillance system adopted, and the situation in temporary shelters. It summarizes lessons learned in this disaster, and is of value for those having to face emergency situations in the future.
