The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in collaboration with the Caribbean Epidemiology Centre (CAREC) hosted a sub-regional workshop on Improved Preparedness and Response for Health Emergencies: Cholera and Outbreaks of Other Water-borne Diseases from 15-17 March 2011 in Barbados. More than 80 participants from the Caribbean attended the workshop which aimed to increase national preparedness and response capacity, to train key personnel in strategies for managing Cholera outbreaks and to identify the main areas for strengthening national response plans for health emergencies. A simulation exercise allowed participants to put their knowledge and skills into practice. This workshop featured presentations on public health and surveillance, tools for planning, preparedness and crisis management, and adaptation of national plans.

This workshop was funded by the UK Department for International Development
