Oruro: Lake Poopó. The mass death of fish and birds has prompted a departmental emergency declaration and disaster area. The Legislative Assembly of Oruro Department approved Tuesday night a law declaring a departmental emergency and disaster area for Lake Poopó due to the mass death of fish and waterfowl that occurred last month. Local response by SEDAG, the military and the community. (m.: ABI).

Mississippi, Lousiana. A powerful storm system is causing heavy rain and tornadoes. The severe weather is blamed for at least four deaths and dozens of injuries. The hardest-hit areas are Columbia, Mississippi and Amite City, Louisiana. A local hospital was being forced to run on backup power to treat the injured. (fo.: MEMA mc.: CBS News).
