CAPRADE PAHO/WHO Prepare New Guidelines on Humanitarian Assistance

altThe Andean Committee for Disaster Prevention and Response (CAPRADE) is planning the preparation of a new manual that will help with information, coordination, and administration of humanitarian assistance is case of disasters. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia has been assigned to coordinate the preparation of the manual, which is an activity defined in the fifth section, “Mutual Assistance in Case of Disaster,” of the Andean Strategy for Disaster Prevention and Response. Colombia has requested technical support from PAHO for the preparation of the guidelines, which will include technical recommendations regarding collaboration between countries. This will address provision of humanitarian assistance, particularly in operating management, coordination, roles of different agencies, and legal aspects of international response. The manual must be prepared and approved before the second trimester of 2008.
