General Information on Barbados

Barbados is an independent democratic nation with a bicameral system of government. It is the most easterly of the Caribbean islands with an area of  430 square km and lies within the hurricane belt at Latitude 13.05o North and Longitude 59.3o West and the average temperature is 27o Celsius.

Executive powers are vested in a Prime Minister as Head of Government and a 20 member Cabinet including 3 parliamentary secretaries.  As Head of State, the Governor General, represents Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. There are two political parties of which the Democratic Labor Party is currently serving following general elections in 2008.
