ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, TUESDAY, JULY 20, 2010.  All eyes will be on Grenada when its representatives take centre stage at the 28th International AIDS Conference in Vienna, Austria, where the Grenadian delegation will present the strategy implemented to manage the HIV/AIDS epidemic following the passage of Hurricane Ivan in 2004.

The two-member Grenada delegation, led by Health Minister Sen. the Hon. Ann Peters, is expected to make a significant impact on the meeting as Grenada continues to be among the top countries in the Caribbean region effectively managing HIV and AIDS, and responding to the needs of persons affected by the disease.

Team member Terry Charles, Chairman of the National Aids Council (NAC), is expected to highlight the plans and programmes that were undertaken to minimize and reduce transmission, and to provide support services in the post-Ivan period to Grenadians infected with HIV and AIDS.

Grenada is among four countries worldwide that are being afforded the opportunity of showcasing its HIV/AIDS work at the Vienna conference. It is being held under the theme: “Universal Access in Post-Disaster Situations; The Caribbean Experience.’’

Meanwhile, Sen. Peters is expected to give remarks at a special conference gathering in her capacity as Chair of the Council of Ministers of Human and Social Development of CARICOM. She’ll also be speaking as Chair of the Regional Coordinating Mechanism of PANCAP, the Pan Caribbean Partnership Against HIV and AIDS.
