On March 10th Mr. Colin Browne – Public Health Specialist (PAHO) and Ms. Katrina Smith, Country Programme Specialist (PAHO – ABM) conducted the BWP review of 2010, prioritized the areas for technical assistance in 2011 and planned the proposed activities for 2012-2013 in the British Virgin Islands.
The meeting attended by the Mrs. Petrona Davies - Permanent Secretary, Dr. Irad Potter - Chief Medical Officer and other Ministry of Health heads of department was used to discuss the technical areas of work which have been achieved and there was much discussion on the implementation procedure and time lines for the IHR.
The Chief Medical Officer stressed the importance of the development of operational manuals to guide the expanding health agenda of the BVI.
Other areas discussed included the finalization of the report for Global School Health Survey and the proposed national consultations, the community based thrust for the implementation of the recommendations from the STEPS survey and the myriad of challenges in the enforcement of the non-smoking regulations in public places.
