|Grenada Quality Assessment Survey|
The Ministry of Health Grenada has embarked on establishing a Quality Improvement program for its Health Services.
Through the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) a Quality Assessment Survey was conducted by Ms. Valerie Rawlins, short term consultant for PAHO, she interviewed key stakeholders including the Minister for Health, Chief Medical Officer, Director of Primary Health Care and the Permanent Secretary; conducted a questionnaire; did site observation visits and reviewed relevant documentation.
The preliminary report revealed among other things, commitment to support the Quality led initiative, varying levels of understanding on the issue of “Quality”, inadequate regulatory framework governing the practice of Health professionals, the need for continuous training in the area of Quality and inadequate infection & control systems, with Infrastructure challenges at both the Secondary and Primary levels.
A series of Quality Improvement sensitization workshops began on April 17- 20, 2012 with different groups of Health professionals.
At the end of the workshops the following were completed:
• Review of the Quality Policy for Ministry of Health
• Development of TOR’s for the Health Quality Council, Quality Improvement Implementation Steering Committee and Audit Team
• Development of a draft two year Implementation Plan for the establishment of a Quality Improvement Programme.
Participants expressed how timely and helpful the workshop was and pledged to work with the Quality Unit to ensure that structures are established and plans implemented to improve the quality of services provided to its clients.
