Orientation of New Minister of Health Barbados

March 25, 2013 - The Offices of the Pan American Health Organization in Barbados hosted newly elected Minister of Health of Barbados, the Honourable John D. Boyce to a one day Orientation Session.

The purpose of this exercise was to provide the Minister with a comprehensive overview of the Pan American Health Organization [PAHO] and the World Health Organization [WHO] in relation to their histories, structures, Governing Bodies and the roles of Ministers of Health in these Organizations.

The Budget structure including Member States’ Quota Contributions as well as the work plans at the Regional, Sub-regional and Member State levels of the Organizations were discussed. An overview of the structure and programs implemented by respective Offices of the Caribbean Program Coordination and the Eastern Caribbean Countries, including Barbados, were presented to the Minister, who was accompanied by the Acting
Permanent Secretary, Mr. Tennyson Springer.

The PAHO Representatives pledged their full and continued commitment to working with Government of Barbados in order to ensure the successful achievement of its national health goals.
