Over the last three months the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) held many educational sessions at the Secondary & Tertiary Institutions of the Northern &Western Primary Health Care District. The sessions were targeted at Adolescent boys from forms 4 & 5.  They were sensitized on:  HIV/AIDS, STIs and drug abuse, they were also were screened for Hypertension, Diabetes, Obesity and Anemia and educated according.

All sessions were very inactive, with the boys being very enthusiastic and happy to ask questions and give suggestions.  They were alarmed at the figures shown by Dr. Francis Martin on the high rate of men dying from Prostate Cancer and the high numbers of men who had strokes. At the end of the session they promised to check a health professional on an annual basis.

Chief Community Health Nurse expressed her satisfaction with the response of the boys and said how happy she was with the positive attitude they displayed.

The community nursing department also held continued education for Health staff on Men’s Health issues, in all over 96 persons attended.
