January 31, 2013 -  PAHO’s  Country Program Specialist for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Ms. Anneke Wilson  along with the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment staff, which included, the Permanent Secretary  Mr. Luis de Shong  , Heads of Department, the  representative from OAS – Mrs Melene Glynn,   media,  as well as the agency for Public Information  gathered at the Ministry  of Health and Wellness conference room to  view  the inauguration ceremony of the New Director of the Pan American Health Organization and WHO Regional Director Dr Carissa Etienne, which was streamed
live from Washington DC.

Mental Health Workshop - St. Vincent & the Grenadines

A five day workshop was held in St. Vincent & the Grenadines in June, 2010 with staff of the Mental Health Services. The aim of the workshop was to build capacity to enable them to train Primary Health Care workers with a view of integrating Mental Health into Primary Health Care.  The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Halliday-Psychiatrist who works with the government of St. Kitts & Nevis.

Community Mental Health Attachment

Julius Lowman and Fitzroy Grant, two Community Mental Health Nurses will leave Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on Sunday 29th November, 2009 for St. Lucia on a one week attachment. In St .Lucia they will observe and discuss the working of the Community mental health services. It is expected that at the end of this attachment the nurses would take back to their country the best practices to enable the Ministry of Health to establish this service thus improving the services provided for the mentally challenged.
