Virtual Forum on Gender Equity in Health Sector Reform

In the Americas region, there has been little discussion to date on the impact of health sector reforms (HSR) on gender equity and the status of women. The Gender and Health Unit will be hosting a virtual forum with the aim of:

• Opening a regional dialogue and interchange on the issue;
• Looking at the most important regional challenges and opportunities for brining a gender perspective to health sector reform;
• Comparing national experiences from a Regional perspective, taking into account the various diferent stakeholders;
• Identifying specific and Regional needs that will serve as the basis for the development of future actions.

The forum will permit us to advance the discussion of the Regional agenda on gender equity in general terms, as well as strengthen and deepen the implementation of the Gender and Health Unit's own Gender Equity and Health Sector Reform Project.

Virtual Forum on Gender Equity in HSR

Beginning date: Monday April 5th 2004
Concluding date: Friday April 30th 2004

Please note: The virtual forum will be conducted primarily in Spanish. Although English-speaking participants are welcome, contributions will not be translated, and all contributions from the moderator (including introductions to the week's topics) will be sent in Spanish.

Each week the discussion will focus on a different theme, which will be introduced by the moderator. The discussion will be based on four conceptual documents, which will be posted to the list before the Forum begins, and which will also be posted on this WebPage. The four proposed themes for discussion are:
